As well as using doTERRA’s Essential Oils myself, I also use them on our dogs, Dougal and Wellington, so I thought I would explain how and why.

I apply the oils using Fido & Felix spray recipes which are available from Essential Oil Supplies in the United Kingdom. The recipes have been developed by Essential Oil Vet - Janet Roark, DVM.

These are the three spray recipes I use the most:

Anxious spray - for Dougal our Labrador who is nearly 11 years old.  As he’s got older, he’s grown to not like loud noises & bangs, especially thunder, heavy rain, fireworks or gun shots (we often walk in the Surrey countryside and at certain times of year, it’s quite common to hear game shoots in progress). He can get agitated and panty, but we have found that putting this spray on his spine and then putting a Thunder Shirt can help to calm him a lot.

Itch Spray - for Wellington our Springer x Golden Retriever who is nearly two years old. He does like a good scratch and can get a little carried away sometimes, so we spray him with this and it helps to relieve him from wanting to scratch.

Cuts Spray - if either dog gets a scratch or graze, once I’ve cleaned it I use this spray.  It has Lavender in it which is a great for soothing and healing.

With all of the sprays I take care to avoid their faces & getting any in their eyes - and of course if they have anything more serious than a small cut or graze we take them to the vets.

Whilst the sprays are a great way to utilise the benefits of Essential Oils with our dogs, they are no substitute for professional veterinary care when required.
