Hay fever season is on its way!

The last few days it certainly feels as though Spring has arrived. Whilst it’s lovely to see all the trees coming into blossom, of course of many people that also means the start of hay fever season is upon us.
According to the NHS website hay fever is usually worse between March and September. Some people can suffer for weeks or months and one in five can suffer with hay fever at some stage of their lives. I am lucky enough to not suffer, but some of my family do, in particular my mum.
I have just recently been to New Zealand to visit my mum and it was late summer there, and although she was over most of the symptoms she has, her eyes were still watering and she was complaining that some days when she woke up they would be stuck together.
I had my The Essential Basic handbook with me, so we had a look to see what Essential Oils might be able to help her. The book suggested Lavender, Lemon, Breathe, Purify and Cilantro. As I was travelling I only had my Home Essentials Kit and a few of my favourite oils, so I only had the first three oils suggested with me. I thought about what else would help and thought I would add Peppermint at the very least it would make the blend smell nice.
As my mum is pretty new to using Essential Oils and is not one to be forced into things she doesn’t want to do. I thought it was best to make her a roller ball blend which could be applied topically, it’s a roller ball bottle with the selected oils and diluted with Fractioned Coconut Oil, so it was easy for her to use and carry around with her should she need it when she was out and about, she is retired so she is always out and about! I suggested that she used the blend by roller it on the soles of her feet at a night and on the back of her neck in the morning and during the day if needed. As the blend contains Peppermint an invigorating oil, I didn’t want her wide awake at bed time.
The first day we didn’t notice much of a difference, I suggested to keep putting it on and see how she got on. By the second day I was too scared to point out she hadn’t sneezed all day and her eyes had not watered as much. On her way to bed, to put her oil on the soles of her feet, she announced that she felt better but would reserve the right to change her mind at a later date.
She’s now been using the blend, as and when she needs it for a month and she feels that it has definitely helped her. As with most things, an oil or oil blend might work for one person might not work for the next person but what have you got to lose trying? That is what I love about Essential Oils, I get to make the decision to help me feel better in a more natural and less toxic way.
